Feeling overwhelmed? You're not alone. 87% of teens face mental health challenges. This July, I am excited to introduce Nexus, a free, 24/7 mental health resource center built by teens, for teens! Imagine a world where every student has access to trusted, reliable mental health support, right at their fingertips. This is the vision behind Nexus, a groundbreaking online platform designed to revolutionize how we address youth mental health needs. And...guess what? You can get involved in this movement!
Millions of students face mental health challenges (87%), yet struggle to access the support they need. And, studies show 50 % of lifetime cases of mental illness begin at 14 years of age. Stigma surrounding mental health can make them feel ashamed to seek help, while a shortage of counselors (an average of 600 students per counselor) limits access to professional support. Even therapy can be a financial burden, often not covered by insurance. Nexus tackles these issues by offering free and accessible resources through a website and upcoming app. This empowers students to learn coping mechanisms, manage their mental health, and potentially seek help earlier. This early intervention frees up counselors to focus on students in crisis, creating a more efficient support system.
Why Teens Need Nexus: Breaking Down the Barriers
Teens today face a lot of pressure – academics, friendships, family, and figuring out who you are in the world. It's no surprise that 87% of teens experience mental health challenges. But why is Nexus so important?
Stigma Sucks: Talking about mental health can feel embarrassing or shameful. This can prevent teens from seeking help when they need it most. Nexus creates a safe space where it's okay to not be okay, and with the peer stories, you can connect with other through reading their stories, and feeling less alone.
Limited Resources = Big Problems: Finding a counselor or therapist can be difficult, especially with long wait times and limited availability. Many families also struggle to afford mental health care. Nexus provides free and accessible resources, so you can get help whenever you need it, without worrying about money.

There are lots of resources out there – but Nexus stands out because it's designed by teens, for teens. We understand the challenges you face, and we created a platform that's relevant and engaging.
